1900 Art Space | Jin Han Solo Project

Jin Han’s personal project Journal of Wild will be held by 1900 Art Space from 23rd December 2020 to 23rd January 2021, which will present the latest series of his artworks in 2020. By then, the artist's wilderness-like paintings will form a romantic -dialogue with the new space of 1900 Art Space which looks like a hanging garden and is in the Bund Financial Center.

Jin Han's painting takes the concept of "Ether" in traditional European philosophy as the center and uses his understanding of this word as the axis to summarize his cognition of painting stars. In Jin Han's view, "Ignorance is romance." He hopes that he can look up to the "world in front of him" as pious and full of absurdity like primitive people, or like a bard wandering in the wilderness. No matter from the ancient mural-quality oil painting or a comprehensive work of wood panels like a medieval shrine. We could always distinguish the artist's sensitivity to the texture and traces of the painting materials. He tries to solidify the "time" into the artwork itself.

Journal of Wild, the main topic of the project, is derived from his diary-style works that have continued since 2014. More than 60 pieces of this series have been completed so far, and this exhibition will present its latest works in 2020. and will present the branch series of Journal of Wild according to the on-site space: "Moon Phase" and "Fireworks" series.

The "Star Atlas" series expresses Jin Han's judgment on myth, science, fallacy, curiosity and conformity. In the picture formed after repeated painting and stacking many color layers, the grainy gray tones are pure colors that try to gush out, just like the Pompeii murals under the deposition of volcanic ash. It seems to imply that only the vitality has gone through elimination could appear fresh. Natural "phenomena" such as lightning, volcanoes, hurricanes, caves, and deserts have broken through the limitation of time and always exist in different forms from the birth to end of the planet. He hopes that these intentional elements can be solidified in the painting caves, stacked, arranged and combined to form a "safe house" in the current digital age.
